vlado Posted September 28, 2013 Report Posted September 28, 2013 Greetings. I could use a little help with symbol on fuchi. I wonder what the symbol means and what it is. I think that it is a mundane egg, but I'm not sure. Can anyone provide any picture of the mundane egg, thank you. Best regards. Miha G. Quote
Pete Klein Posted September 28, 2013 Report Posted September 28, 2013 I believe that is the center of the flower. Quote

cabowen Posted September 28, 2013 Report Posted September 28, 2013 Haha....He does that enough all by himself! I love sliced, pickled lotus root (renkon) with togarashi stuffed in the holes... Quote
vlado Posted September 28, 2013 Author Report Posted September 28, 2013 Thank you Chris, Pete, John. Can you provide me with some picture example. I found an article about the mundane egg, and it seemed to me that I see this symbol. This is an article. In Japan, in the Pagoda of Miaco,’ he says, ‘upon a large square altar is placed a bull of massive gold on a block of rock; the animal is ornamented by a rich collar, and pushes with its horns an egg floating in the water contained in a cavity of the rock. To explain this image, the following is told by the Priests. At the time of chaos, before the creation, the world was concealed and inert in an egg which floated on the surface of the waters. . . The divine bull image of creative force broke the egg by a stroke of its horns, and from the egg issued the terrestrial globe Miha Quote
vlado Posted September 28, 2013 Author Report Posted September 28, 2013 The picture that I posted I see in the background two leaves is this lotus leaf or it is bamboo leaf. Thanx. Miha Quote
John A Stuart Posted September 28, 2013 Report Posted September 28, 2013 Here is dried lotus that really shows the shape. Not the root but the head as on your fuchi. John Quote
nagamaki - Franco Posted September 28, 2013 Report Posted September 28, 2013 Hello to All, While I luv Lotus flower and have grown them, I have some reservation about this fuchi representing a lotus flower as the leaves are much more aligned with Japanese tree peonies. Will post images of both for you to make up your own mind. Thanks. Quote
Pete Klein Posted September 28, 2013 Report Posted September 28, 2013 I believe this is 'Eda Botan Zu', as depicted here: Kozuka from: http://www.aoijapan.com/kozukamumei-goto-early-edo Quote
vlado Posted September 28, 2013 Author Report Posted September 28, 2013 Pete and franco I think your answer is more logical because the shape of leaves. Is Center of Japanese tree peonies similar?? Do you know what it would mean in mythology. Thanks for your efforts and support means a lot to me. Miha G. Quote
nagamaki - Franco Posted September 28, 2013 Report Posted September 28, 2013 Is Center of Japanese tree peonies similar?? Early in the blooms one could see similarity, later, no. Quote
vlado Posted September 28, 2013 Author Report Posted September 28, 2013 I do not understand the best, do you think the early flowering stage? Also In the lower part are visible 3 small flowers looking like late flowering stage.( it looks like a tree ) Miha G. Quote
