I use to buy gold coins from ebay and as much as 10% of sellers either dishonest about the condition or worse take your money and don't send the coin then change their IDs and they are USA and European sellers.

A conman is a conman it does not matter which part of the world they are from.

Fair Point Jean, but 2 or 3 is better than 0, one must consider other reasons why someone has a (0). Unscrupulous buyers and sellers set up one off accounts for one off scams. Ive even heard of accounts being set up just so sellers can give their competitors bad feedback. Ive just posted a meteorite to a (0), in what i would call, an high risk country, and i cant pretend that it doesnt concern me, mainly because Paypal always sides with the buyer....a tricky situation may incur, but hopefully not.....

This sort of trap has almost become a fact of life on ebay... but it's so blatantly obvious that it would only attract people completely clueless about 'samurai swords'

The chance of any real nihonto related artifacts coming out of China onto eBay would be close to impossible

Ironically, a dealer in the UK once told me that an awful lot of genuine nihonto as gone into China, infact, he said that's where most his blades went.

Part of the reasons why so many nihonto related forgery comming out of China is because there is a growing middle class demand for the genuine stuff. Whenever something is popular in China there is a thriving industry of homages and forgeries to cater for those who cannot afford the real stuff. Understanding and learning from a neighbour whose art took root in its own country in most cases is not as hard. There is even Japanese swordsmith working in China. Looking in the internet there is plenty of Chinese forums of collectors interested in Japanese swords especially WW2 gendaitos. I've heard even Paul Chen's blades made it to the set of the Last Samurai as film props. If the trend continues and I'm sure the fakes will get better, then the real stuff becomes more expensive.

The ebay auction in discussion is a con and not even attempt to sell you fakes.
