Hello,

this blade has been offered to me.

It is signed Oite Minamoto Masakatsu Motome and Ishido Unju Korekazu tsukuru and is dated July 1863 (see picture below).

The blade is mounted into a Shin Gunto Koshirae.

As this is a quite famous smith and the price seems o.k. (maybe to cheap :-) )I would kindly ask for your thoughts on this Mei....

Of course I tried it to compare it with some references, but came to no real conclusion (probably it is gimei !!)

Many thanks in advance

Klaus

I would not trust a website that doesn't give info about themselves, their location or the people who work there.

From the whois, they appear to be in Canada, but :dunno:

Their "About Us" page is ridiculously lacking. That doesn't instill confidence in their products. Their page is in Chinese and English too...odd.

Products look ok...but you have to know who you are buying from.

i believe that I bought a sword from this guy a couple of years ago. If it is the one I am thinking of, he is more an expert in Chinese art, but carries some Japanese swords. He is in Canada, and I had no problem with the transaction. I have no opinion about the Korekazu. Cheers, Bob

Hi Brian,

Thank you for your great suggestion. The mentioned website is new and belongs to me. I will listen to all suggestions and improve it. Something about myself, I am an economist, graduated from McGill University Master of Arts in 1988. I have been collecting antique and nihonto for over 20 years in Toronto Canada. Over these years, I have been trading swords to some members/users from this board through diffenert channels. If anyone has any questions or comments, please let me know. Thank you everybody.

HI Klaus,

I think if you look in Shin Shinto Nihon to Koza page 408

Kajhei Gimei of Kiyomaro you will find the real maker of

your Korekazu, Kajhei (Hosada Naomitsu), his way of chiseling

mei is a dead ringer for the one on your sword.

I just recently deliberately bought a gimei Kotetsu that I thought

was an excellent sword even though a fake by Kajihei and have sent

it off for repolish in Japan

regards

Alan

Tenny,

Good to hear from the owner. As I mentioned..when I look at a new website, I want to see a paragraph saying : "Hi, My name is xxx and I am a dealer in XXXX. My background is..... and my contact details are xxxx"

Once I see that, I feel a lot better about buying from that dealer, and easier to ask who has dealt with them before.

Glad to hear from others who dealt with you..so all seems good here, and I will make sure I add the site to the links page if it isn't there.

Feel free to post from time to time and inform us of new products, specials etc.

Dealers can definitely benefit from a NMB presence.
