Ihammer Posted September 22, 2013 Report Posted September 22, 2013 I picked this up at a garage sale and noticed it has markings. Can anyone tell me if this is real or fake? Thanks, Bob Quote
Ihammer Posted September 22, 2013 Author Report Posted September 22, 2013 Sorry added the same picture twice. Here is the image with markings. And to be clear, it is the sword on top. The other one I think is a repo/copy. Thanks. Quote
Gabriel L Posted September 22, 2013 Report Posted September 22, 2013 Fake. Rough acid-etched swirly coarse hada, wrong color alloys and patina, pseudo-Japanese koshirae that doesn't match normal motifs or designs, nontraditional tsukamaki method (notice the twists all go the same direction), etc. Marginally more accurate fake than some, but still a low-grade copy. hxv Posted September 22, 2013 Report Posted September 22, 2013 Bob, It looks like a Chinese fake sword. Just so I am not confused, it's the sword on top with the colorful scabbard, the handle with brown cord wrapping, and what appears to be numbers on the habaki, correct? Edit: Gabriel beat me to it! Stephen Posted September 22, 2013 Report Posted September 22, 2013 you shouldnt need three nay sayers but yep to confirm...rubbish repo Quote
Ihammer Posted September 22, 2013 Author Report Posted September 22, 2013 Thanks for the help. I thought it was a repo but some of the details looked pretty good for a copy. This sword supposedly came from Japan in the sixties via a military guy. It has been sharpened some time in the past and appears to be able to hold an edge. Thanks, Bob Quote
Ken-Hawaii Posted September 22, 2013 Report Posted September 22, 2013 It has been sharpened some time in the past and appears to be able to hold an edge. Then perhaps you may get some use out of it when you're cutting down trees or bushes.... Ken Quote
