nightryder87 Posted August 28, 2013 Report Posted August 28, 2013 Hello, My brother has come across a sword and would like to see if anyone could figure out some of the markings. I will attach 4 photos below. I used the negative feature in my photo editing software which makes the markings a little easier to see. Quote
nightryder87 Posted August 28, 2013 Author Report Posted August 28, 2013 For some reason the first and third pictures are not showing up in the post but you can click on the names Neg1 and Neg3 to see them. Quote

Lance Posted August 29, 2013 Report Posted August 29, 2013 Found other examples of your stamps in the topic below, both look to refer to construction method used (seems unusual to have both on the same nakago?) viewtopic.php?f=50&t=8010&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=135 viewtopic.php?f=50&t=8010&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=75 Hopefully somebody will do a better job than me helping with the signature, and most likely be corrected (very bad allergies today so don't hold it against me :? ) but I'm guessing Amahide kitae kore for the bottom 4 characters Regards, Lance Quote
george trotter Posted August 30, 2013 Report Posted August 30, 2013 The mei reads (lousy pics BTW, maybe why no-one has answered this) as follows "ShoShin KoBuseGitae Masafusa Saku" meaning "Masafusa made this with genuine core steel in wrapped style forging". The two stamps refer to this 1. is patent number and 2. is "shingane iri" (true core steel inside). have a look ar Slough pp.65 and 98). Regards, Quote
rkg Posted August 30, 2013 Report Posted August 30, 2013 Hey! I have one of these... Just out of curiosity, does it have a showa stamp on it or anything? the pics you have didn't go up to the munemachi, and... I'm still trying to figure the blade I own out - the at arm's length hada looks muji, but there seems to be something there if you look close, the hamon is done in nioi deki, but seems more complex than you normally see if its oil quenched - so, is it traditionally made, traditionally made out of mill steel, oil quenched, or...? Its my "crash test dummy" for lighting setups, so I actually have some images of it (albeit not so good since they're test images) note that the second stamp is actually on the back side of the nakago for some reason: http://www.rkgphotos.com/recent_stuff/t ... etail1.jpg http://www.rkgphotos.com/recent_stuff/t ... o_roth.jpg Please pardon the poor knockout, etc. on the second one.... So, Alan what does the blade your brother found look like to you in hand? A really nice showato, or... Best, rkg (Richard George) Quote
nightryder87 Posted September 1, 2013 Author Report Posted September 1, 2013 Thanks for the information everyone. I have not seen anymore stamps or markings anywhere on the sword. I will attach photo of the actual sword so you can see it. Alan Quote
Brian Posted September 1, 2013 Report Posted September 1, 2013 Before anyone else says it...resting a sword on concrete or pavement will get you roasted here on the NMB Brian Quote
