Mark C Posted June 11, 2007 Report Posted June 11, 2007 Hi all, Picked up this rather poor looking tsuba at the weekend, Any thoughts? Many thanks Mark Quote
Mike Posted June 11, 2007 Report Posted June 11, 2007 IMHO clouds design, possibly shoami. Very poor Mike Quote
Andi B. Posted June 11, 2007 Report Posted June 11, 2007 ...the lower left hole looks a bit like a bat... ? I own also a very poor wakizashi tsuba and I'm intersted in any thougths about it (I don't want to start a new thread with this "miserable" piece): The dates which I found out but I'm not sure if it's correct: 67 x 62 mm, Kiku mon Sukashi bori (right term?) - the spokes are inserted and partly lost pieces Saotome school ??? Age: ??? Can this be confirmed or do you have other ideas? Quote
Rich S Posted June 11, 2007 Report Posted June 11, 2007 This style was made by Saotome and Bushu Ito schools among others. The very elongated hitsu-ana pretty much say Saotome; probably early Edo. A shame it's in such poor condition. Rich S Quote

Pete Klein Posted June 11, 2007 Report Posted June 11, 2007 Hi Milt -- I would bet dollars to donuts it's an Aizu Shoami Shigenobu. There apparently were three generations and this looks just like their style. I had one once and this just rang the proverbial bell. Pete Quote
Bungo Posted June 11, 2007 Report Posted June 11, 2007 Pete, I wouldn't bet with you on that.........LOL, thanks for the info, I'll go add that to the description. milt the ronin Quote
Rich S Posted June 12, 2007 Report Posted June 12, 2007 I would agree, most likely Aizu Shoami Shigenobu. I have a papered daisho by one of them. Same style, only mokko. See my webpage at: http://www.geocities.com/alchemyst/tsuba/tsubadai.htm Milt - I think we're talking about two different tsuba. The first one on this thread IMHO is Shigenobu, but the second one posted by Andi B. is a Saotome IMHO. Rich S Quote
Rich T Posted June 12, 2007 Report Posted June 12, 2007 I also agree with this kantei. http://page16.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/u13419188 Rich Quote
Pete Klein Posted June 12, 2007 Report Posted June 12, 2007 I was referring to the first picture in the post -- sorry for the mix-up. Quote
