pcfarrar Posted June 10, 2007 Report Posted June 10, 2007 For all Samurai movie fans Bushi no Ichibun is now out for purchase: http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=DB-54 Excellent film well worth watching. Quote
Guest Simon Rowson Posted June 14, 2007 Report Posted June 14, 2007 Very good movie....it's the final film in the trilogy that began with "The Twilight Samurai" ("Tasogare Seibei") and "The Hidden Blade" (Kakushi Ken Oni no Tsume). Same author (Shuhei Fujisawa) and same director (Yoji Yamada) for all three. Quote
pcfarrar Posted June 14, 2007 Author Report Posted June 14, 2007 Hi Simon, Are there any more new releases of Samurai based movies on the horizon? Thanks, Peter Quote
Guest Simon Rowson Posted June 14, 2007 Report Posted June 14, 2007 Hi Peter, As there has been a bit of a Jidai-Geki revival here of late I think that there are a couple of new films expected later this year....I'll give you more details when I find them out. Have you seen "After the Rain" ("Ame Agaru")? It's a beautiful, gentle film (much like the 3 by Yoji Yamada) and was the last film written by Akira Kurosawa. It even had Shiro Mifune, son of Kurosawa's favourite actor, Toshiro, in a main supporting role. Well worth watching if you liked the Yamada movies. All the best, Simon Quote
pcfarrar Posted June 14, 2007 Author Report Posted June 14, 2007 Hi Simon, Thanks I just bought "After the Rain" a few days ago. Still waiting for it to arrive from the US. Please let us know of any new movies that come out. Peter Quote
Guest Simon Rowson Posted June 15, 2007 Report Posted June 15, 2007 Will do Peter, Incidentally, regarding "Ame Agaru", I was in our local bar with my wife two weeks ago and we got chatting to a lady and elderly gentleman sitting next to us. It turned out that she was an actress who had appeared as an kimono-clad extra in that same movie and the man was the wardrobe master for all the fake armour, swords etc for this and many other jidai-geki films. He actually invited me to visit him so he could pose me in a suit of yoroi and take photos but, in my experience, random invitations from a Japanese who's had a lot to drink rarely amount to anything! We'll have to wait and see. All the best Simon Quote
WoodbridgeGaijin Posted June 15, 2007 Report Posted June 15, 2007 What are the odds of that happening? I guess it really is a small world Quote
