Kanjisan Posted August 8, 2013 Report Posted August 8, 2013 Dear Members: Looking for a definition for a Denyaku ... and the responsibility of the Magestrate of Weapons for the Shogun? Also the title of Abe? Thanks, Allan Quote
Toryu2020 Posted August 8, 2013 Report Posted August 8, 2013 Allan - Do you have the kanji for your titles? Do you know which Abe we might be looking for? Would love to help but need more info... Quote
Kanjisan Posted August 8, 2013 Author Report Posted August 8, 2013 Thomas, Here is what I am responding to. I have been looking this Yorinao for a long time. Tokugawa Jikki May 15, 1657 The Shogun (Ietsuna) goes to Abe Bungo no Kami's residence and there "test" a Shinto. It is witnessed by Omori Shinano no Kami Yorinao, a Denyaku and the Magsitrate of Weapons. I see this Abe in front of other names and assume it is a title of some sort? Thanks for your response. I think you actually translated this Nakago for me about three years ago. Allan Quote
Drago Posted August 8, 2013 Report Posted August 8, 2013 Isn't Abe here the clan's name (like a family name)? "Bungo no kami" is a title. Denyaku however might really be a title. Quote
John A Stuart Posted August 8, 2013 Report Posted August 8, 2013 Could Denyaku be 殿役 a palace post or position (generic) and magistrate of weapons be 奉行の剣戟 or 代官の剣戟 ?? John Quote
k morita Posted August 9, 2013 Report Posted August 9, 2013 Hi Allan, Not "Denyaku", Moriyaku/Fuyaku.傅役 The educational staff of the feudallord. Quote
Kanjisan Posted August 9, 2013 Author Report Posted August 9, 2013 Thanks everyone. As always, much appreciated. What I took away from this is that these labels, titles, cant be a bad thing. Allan Quote
