Dear All

I am working on a translation of a Masafusa sword

I have - Maybe

Omote

Right hand column

Hayama Enshin kore monyō

What is monyō??

I think somewhere on this message board the yō was talked about but I can not

find where?????

Center column

Fujiwara Masafusa saku

Yoshida Yama ni oite Fumoto Shinju nin Kitae Kore

Forged this sword while living at the foot of Mount Yoshida

Ura

Koki ni Sen go Hiaku kyu ju kyu nen Haru

Did I get anything wrong?

What does monyō mean?

thanks

At the foot of Mt. Yoshida, forged this from iron.

I tend to think that Enshin emphasized with the last part that he added

a softer core, i.e. "shingane-iri kore o kitau" (真金入鍛之). Usually shingane

is written with the characters (心鉄) but also (真金) is possible I guess.

Hi, John san,

Your sword inscription is old owner's inscription(kiritsuke-mei).

(Kibi) is a family name.

真金 (Sane-kane) is 1st name, not "shin-gane".

為 (to-nasu)--- for.

佩 (hai)--- wearing(the sword) .

Meaning is "Wearing this sword for Kibi Sanekane".
