What is monyō??

I think somewhere on this message board the yō was talked about but I can not

find where?????

Yoshida Yama ni oite Fumoto Shinju nin Kitae Kore

Forged this sword while living at the foot of Mount Yoshida

Did I get anything wrong?

What does monyō mean?

Monyo means lineage, bloodline, line

 

He is saying he is from the Enshin line....

I looked in all my dictionaries and could not find

monyo. thanks

 

And "At the foot of Mt. Yoshida, forged this from iron."

Is a much better way of translating thanks for the

help.

I tend to think that Enshin emphasized with the last part that he added

a softer core, i.e. "shingane-iri kore o kitau" (真金入鍛之). Usually shingane

is written with the characters (心鉄) but also (真金) is possible I guess.

Before I posted the previous response, I found the following example, which means “iron”.

I think that shigane theory is also possible.

In this case ,真 金(shin-gane) means core steel,not iron.

Your sword inscription is old owner's inscription(kiritsuke-mei).

 

吉備　(Kibi) is a family name.

 

真金　(Sane-kane) is 1st name, not "shin-gane".

 

為　(to-nasu)--- for.

 

佩　(hai)--- wearing(the sword) .　　

 

Meaning is "Wearing this sword for Kibi Sanekane".
