WoodbridgeGaijin Posted June 7, 2007 Report Posted June 7, 2007 Is it common to have two different styles of Bo-Hi on a nihonto such as this?http://antiques.listings.ebay.ca/Asian-Antiques_Japanese_W0QQfromZR4QQsacatZ37934QQsocmdZListingItemList Val Giardina Quote
Brian Posted June 7, 2007 Report Posted June 7, 2007 I think this is the one you mean? http://cgi.ebay.ca/Antique-signed-Japan ... dZViewItem I don't think it is common, but not very rare either. Ending in a few minutes. Not enough blade pics to determine if there is anything to worry about IMHO. Brian Quote
pcfarrar Posted June 7, 2007 Report Posted June 7, 2007 I can't believe someone paid over $2000. For that price you could get a much better blade. The grooves dont look very well cut and that saya is horrible. Quote
WoodbridgeGaijin Posted June 7, 2007 Author Report Posted June 7, 2007 My apologies, It was this one. Val Giardina http://cgi.ebay.ca/Japanese-Samurai-Sword-FUJIWARA-NOBUTAKA-w-BOHI_W0QQitemZ160123033978QQihZ006QQcategoryZ73466QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Quote
Ed Harbulak Posted June 7, 2007 Report Posted June 7, 2007 This style of horimono is not very unusual. It's a gomabashi on one side and either a bohi or koshibi on the other side. Rather a common method of decoration by the Echizen Seki smiths as well as some other schools. Ed Quote
sencho Posted June 8, 2007 Report Posted June 8, 2007 That is Mike Yamaguchi's auction and he is a good guy.... he sometimes sells some "project blades" but he makes no bones about them being nothing but a rusty peice of metal!!! I have bought swords from him before and would trust him totally. As you see he offers a full refund if the blade does not pass shinsa and he gives you a 10 day inspection period (from the day YOU recive the blade) That is a pretty fair trading practice... By the way it is not an embarrassing question at all... it is a very good question!! I learned something new...:D !! Cheers Quote
