JamesH Posted July 23, 2013 Report Posted July 23, 2013 Hi everyone I was hoping I could hear some opinions on School / Age of this sword: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/SHINTO-O-WAK ... d=ViewItem Cheers James Quote
Marius Posted July 23, 2013 Report Posted July 23, 2013 I won't speculate on the school, but the sword looks shinshinto. Of course ware in a shinshinto are not exactly desirable. Otherwise it seems a pretty fat and healthy sword. Photos are pretty bad, though. Quote
Jorgensen Posted July 23, 2013 Report Posted July 23, 2013 Absolutely agree... it looks shinshinto... Nakago-ana looks drilled frm the pictures and nakago patina looks artificially aged to me - overall quality and re-sale value will not high as well - please consider this, if you intend to bid on it. Some may disagree with me and should of course feel welcome to do so =) I have no suggestions on school. Quote
Geraint Posted July 23, 2013 Report Posted July 23, 2013 Speaking of the nakago ana anyone seeing what I am? Quote
Marius Posted July 23, 2013 Report Posted July 23, 2013 Speaking of the nakago ana anyone seeing what I am? No yasurime? Quote
Jorgensen Posted July 23, 2013 Report Posted July 23, 2013 Marius. No, he is talking about the nakago ANA (peg hole) ... usually a hole has no yasurime Quote
hxv Posted July 23, 2013 Report Posted July 23, 2013 Other than the fact that the rim of the nakago ana seems to be rough, I don't notice anything amiss. Hoanh Quote
JamesH Posted July 24, 2013 Author Report Posted July 24, 2013 Hi everyone, Thank you very much for your fast replies. I guess the concensus is shinshinto. I was leaning this way as well, but the nakago quite threw me. I did not think it was artificially aged because I thought I didn't see any signs of this. Can someone please point it out for me so I see what everyone else sees What threw me more was the small cavity where the nakago has worn away where the suba would sit - at least I think thats what it is ... Photos are quite crappy I have only seen this on fairly old swords, but perhaps more experienced members can correct me if they have come across this on shinshinto blades. This and the lines that kind of look like faded kiri yasurime threw me completely off track. No takers on the School ? Regards James Quote
Brian Posted August 10, 2013 Report Posted August 10, 2013 No. That would be pointless. Literally. Used to add a valuable mei from a broken sword to another mumei sword. Not the case here, and not enough advantage to have bothered. Brian Quote
cabowen Posted August 10, 2013 Report Posted August 10, 2013 Brian makes a good point. Another one is the way the nioi-guchi appears to continue to the togi-damari meaning it wasn't heated. Quote
