Picked up a Kai-Gunto this weekend with naval tsuka, tsuba, 1943 stainless blade, etc., but had an interesting saya. Any help on it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Brandon

it is not the correct saya. It belongs on a civilian katana. I have heard from vets that at times there would be a pile of swords and a separate pile of saya and you picked a sword then went to find a saya that fit. Seems a strange thing to separate them but I have heard it from vets more than once.

Thanks, I was wondering how this scabbard ended up on this sword. I hadn't heard about the 2 piles for swords. I've definitely heard that the mauser bolts and rifles were split into 2 different piles and that's why so few of those match. Any idea of time period of scabbard or if those are family crests vs a design?

Thanks,

Brandon
