Guys, please nice if anyone knows how they were painted fittings from WW2 Katana Type 3 ? What sort of paint they used ?

I also want to know what kind of paint was used to scabard.

But Tsuba with what color to paint, now is black.

Fuchi , Koiguchi(Koiguchi in the picture is for Katana WW2 type 98) and Menuki were they painted ?

Want to ask the last question: think you that do damage to the sword if it restores the original colors for fittings and scabbard ?

Thank you.

The koiguchi is wrong for that type gunto.

The other parts on saya has original colors.

Looks like tsuka needs a rewrap.

Tsuba and fittings are meant to be black.

Yes, definitely! Leave it as it is!

Ok.

To leave original warpping cord or change a new one ?

Katana WW2 type 3 has warpping cord cotton or silk? On my Katana is cotton.Where can I find references about the model of the Katana sword?

Thank you.

As a rule, the Type 3 mounts are divided into two sections...better quality mounts usually found on handmade blades and "general production" arsenal contractor blades and fittings.

Yours is the "general contractor" type.

I would leave it as it is, except I would hunt for the correct mouth-piece for the scabbard. In time, as you become more experienced, I think you could try to re-bind the handle (use the existing tape if possible)...there are plenty of on-line sites that explain binding.

The reason some mounts are black, dark green, rich brown matte finish lacquer wooden scabbard is because they are on a better class of (usually hand-made) blade. Yours is the "standard" metal painted scabbard of the "general production sword" (the site you checked does not show the "standard" type sword and mounts...only better quality types).

Hope this helps,
