Dick Tait Posted June 27, 2013 Report Posted June 27, 2013 Have there been any significant nihonto come to light (gone on to be highly papered / recognised)? Quote
Brian Posted June 28, 2013 Report Posted June 28, 2013 There was a very nice Gendaito picked up by someone on eBay for a few dollars (listed as a repro iirc ) and a great tanto made by a Western Japanese-trained smith who has passed away and is a significant find. Am sure there are others. Brian Quote
pcfarrar Posted June 28, 2013 Report Posted June 28, 2013 One I remember is that someone bought a cheap sandai Tadayoshi from Daimyo54eb on eBay that papered. Quote
paulb Posted June 28, 2013 Report Posted June 28, 2013 I remember that one too Peter (mainly because I missed it on ebay ) It re-appeared a while later on one of the main dealer sites, I think being sold on consignment. It had been polished and although it had some condition issues ( areas of core steel showing) it was still a very good buy at the time At the risk of sounding a a bit syrupy the best find on this site in the years I have been visiting it is a lot of really decent and knowledgeable people who are willing to share their time and know how. Very few places where you could find such a high level of international co-operation around a fascinating subject. Quote

drbvac Posted June 29, 2013 Report Posted June 29, 2013 No arguments from here 0 rare finds indeed folks who share knowledge willingly over and over and over again Quote
Gilles Posted June 29, 2013 Report Posted June 29, 2013 I agree with Paul, Dick and Brian. The treasure here are the people and their willingness to share their knowledge. That is the best find I made on this forum (along with several swords that I really enjoy) Quote

kissakai Posted July 2, 2013 Report Posted July 2, 2013 I have to go with the comments about the NMB My first post was on 28/06/12 - Just over a year ago and over the last year I have added 36 posts I've had in total 304 replies and 21696 views So an approximate average of 8.5 replies per post with 603 views per post My most popular post (also my first) had 304 replies and 2144 views Where else can you get this much help from such learned volunteers? My first post came in for some harsh criticism and felt this was over the top but now I realise not every one is a gem and you realise these are in general good comments Any that may appear to punch below the belt you can ignore. If you put an item for comments expect both good and bad - that is the nature of the board and long may it stay the same I also have the added bonus of buying quite a few tsuba from 'safe' sources, learning how to uploads picture which nightmare to start with and making some great contacts It must be truely amazing to know the full total of all the posts, views and replies over a year The numbers must be staggering Keep up the unselfish good work in expanding everyone's Nihontô knowledge Grev UK Quote
