mywei Posted June 15, 2013 Report Posted June 15, 2013 hey guys, to those interested in Hizen blades, it seems I've come across a nice deal (imho) of a papered (hozon) shodai Hizen Masahiro katana whilst window shopping unfortunately I'm not in the market right now, but I know there are plenty of Hizen fans here never done any business with this website before but looks legit http://www.taiseido.biz/cn11/cn22/pg521.html nice looking blade with an attractive gunome choji hamon... Brian Posted June 15, 2013 Report Posted June 15, 2013 Am I missing the price somewhere? Can't be a "nice deal" unless it has a "nice price" Brian Quote

cabowen Posted June 15, 2013 Report Posted June 15, 2013 The description claims it has tokubetsu hozon papers, but the papers are Hozon only.... Quote
NihontoEurope Posted June 15, 2013 Report Posted June 15, 2013 I noticed the same. Also, Is it Shodai? I have a Shodai, but this looks 4th gen to me. Edit: Yasurime obscured and where I can see the angle; it does not appear to be the right one. I might be wrong but I will check it further. Too sharp turns in the midare when I compare my blade and from books. Shodai is softer and balanced. /Martin Quote
mywei Posted June 15, 2013 Author Report Posted June 15, 2013 Yeah it is a Hozon, not TH ?typo What about the mei? It doesn't look way off other 1st gen mei I don't think? Quote
NihontoEurope Posted June 15, 2013 Report Posted June 15, 2013 Chris, Do you know of any reference? Book or so... /Martin Quote
cabowen Posted June 15, 2013 Report Posted June 15, 2013 I should think that Fujishiro or the others mentioned above should have lots of signatures... Quote
NihontoEurope Posted June 15, 2013 Report Posted June 15, 2013 Was thinking about the sharper hamon. Sorry for being unclear. All I have is the softer style. /Martin Quote
cabowen Posted June 15, 2013 Report Posted June 15, 2013 Sorry, can't recommend anything offhand. Edit- mistaken reference to Tadakuni removed.... Quote
Mark Posted June 16, 2013 Report Posted June 16, 2013 NBTHK recently had an article on Tadakuni and had examples of his mei as it changed giving dates with examples. I noticed it as I was interested in Tadakuni, they probably have more info on other Hizen smiths. Quote
mywei Posted June 16, 2013 Author Report Posted June 16, 2013 Masahiro was part of the Yoshinobu line of Hizen smiths right? not Tadakuni? Quote
cabowen Posted June 16, 2013 Report Posted June 16, 2013 Masahiro was part of the Yoshinobu line of Hizen smiths right? not Tadakuni? I mistakenly mentioned Tadakuni...This is of course a Masahiro blade. Sorry for the confusion.... Quote
