jeremy Posted May 21, 2013 Report Posted May 21, 2013 What do you guys think of this flaw? Looks like loose grain opening, about 2 inches away from yokote. Serious or nor? Besides the chip, does the opening seem serious? http://s201.photobucket.com/user/jezah8 ... sort=3&o=0 http://s201.photobucket.com/user/jezah8 ... sort=3&o=1 Kind regards, Jeremy Quote
Mark Posted May 21, 2013 Report Posted May 21, 2013 hard to see in the pictures. The small ware' or loose grain (if what I see is what you are asking about) is a cosmetic flaw not a serious flaw. Sort of depends on the sword, if it is a kamakura sword it is nothing, if it is a gendai you would be concerned it may get worse in the future when polished. Quote
jeremy Posted May 21, 2013 Author Report Posted May 21, 2013 what you see is what im talking about Mark. Its a Muromachi period Sengo blade. The loose grain in the first link is very hard to see, you may need to really zoom in on it. its very fine...even hard to depict in hand. Kind regards, Jeremy Hagop Quote
Ken-Hawaii Posted May 21, 2013 Report Posted May 21, 2013 Jeremy, what makes you think it's a serious flaw? Especially in a blade that old? Ken Quote
jeremy Posted May 21, 2013 Author Report Posted May 21, 2013 I guess something serious to one person is not so serious to another, I normally see serious flaws as flaws that. Compromise the integrity of the blade as a user weapon, not as something serious to look at. But I just wanted to hear others more expert opinion :D kind regards, Jeremy Hagop Quote
