cabowen Posted May 14, 2013 Report Posted May 14, 2013 A name without the specific kanji is almost useless.... Quote
Brian Posted May 15, 2013 Report Posted May 15, 2013 Chris, How many tosho can there be since 1989 with the name Yasutomo? I can only assume it is to explore alternative readings of the kanji, as there isn't a Yasutomo listed? http://www.tousyoukai.jp/english/member_e.shtml Brian Quote
cabowen Posted May 15, 2013 Report Posted May 15, 2013 Having the kanji makes a search in Japanese possible. Searching in English, if there is more than one, it is impossible to know which one it is. Since kanji can be read in many different ways, how do we know that Yasutomo is even, in fact, the correct reading? Are you certain the list you cited is complete? I doubt it as not all smiths are members of that group...Sometimes smiths change their names too. So, for at least 3 or 4 reasons, again, without the kanji, it's a non-starter. And by the way, there is a non-Japanese smith who signs his blades Yasutomo, so that is a possibility as well. Quote
Mark Posted May 15, 2013 Report Posted May 15, 2013 I know Louis Mills, he lives near me. Not sure if it is his tanto without seeing the item but here is some info http://togiarts.com/Togi_Arts/Louis_Mills.html mark Quote
