hello folks saw an interesting tanto the other day signed yasu tomo dated heisei 4 has anyone ever heard

Having the kanji makes a search in Japanese possible. Searching in English, if there is more than one, it is impossible to know which one it is. Since kanji can be read in many different ways, how do we know that Yasutomo is even, in fact, the correct reading?

 

Are you certain the list you cited is complete? I doubt it as not all smiths are members of that group...Sometimes smiths change their names too.

 

So, for at least 3 or 4 reasons, again, without the kanji, it's a non-starter.

 

And by the way, there is a non-Japanese smith who signs his blades Yasutomo, so that is a possibility as well.

thanks mark from his photos and description this is probably his work the kanji is cut very precisely and not deep and very uniform does not look atall like a Japanese signed it L.Kanarek MD
