Ed Hicks Posted May 7, 2013 Report Posted May 7, 2013 Mutsu Daijo Miyoshi Nagamichi Katana...Any idea what generation this may be based on this image? That's all I have to go on. Thanks, Ed Quote
Ed Hicks Posted May 7, 2013 Author Report Posted May 7, 2013 Images of the tsuka and the tsuba...I'll try to get photos of the blade posted soon... Quote
J Reid Posted May 7, 2013 Report Posted May 7, 2013 At first glance this blade looks like its from 2nd gen. Manji- Kanbun Shinto. Mei looks shoshin! Quote
Jacques Posted May 8, 2013 Report Posted May 8, 2013 Hi, Based on what i see and on the fact that the nidai died at 26 years old (there is almost no extant works by him) i would lean towards the shodai. Quote
J Reid Posted May 8, 2013 Report Posted May 8, 2013 Jacques, The only reason I said nidai as oppose to shodai is because the strokes of nidai seem more controlled, compressed, and hugging the shinogi ridge. Where as shodai seem to be a bit more "loose" and fall over ridge often. That being said- The mei styles are almost identical, yasurimei, and jiri between the 2 generations. It's hard to tell without a picture of the blade itself. Would you agree? Shodai---Vvv Quote
J Reid Posted May 8, 2013 Report Posted May 8, 2013 The other thing was nidai has a tendency to end strokes with a hawk feather and shodai doesn't seem to do that. Quote

J Reid Posted May 9, 2013 Report Posted May 9, 2013 Well now I feel silly.. I thought that the initial hozon certificate I posted as an example was the nidai! I apologize I read that wrong. I looked around and all I can find is examples of the shodai. I revoke my opinion. Quote
