cabowen Posted April 15, 2013 Report Posted April 15, 2013 Older blade, possibly Shinto, in samurai koshirae that has been retrofitted for use in WWII. Quote
Surfson Posted April 15, 2013 Report Posted April 15, 2013 I agree with Chris. Looks to be machiokuri. Quote
lcnmorty24 Posted April 15, 2013 Author Report Posted April 15, 2013 wow that old! I am new to sword collecting and have no idea.this sword was recovered off of Saipan during WWII. Do you think I should restore the sword? I have $500.00 into it all ready. How much is it to have a sword polished? I know I'm a rookie.... lol jeff m Quote
Surfson Posted April 15, 2013 Report Posted April 15, 2013 Folks on the NMB can't give an answer without seeing the whole sword. Any important flaws would disqualify it, at least in financial terms. Since it appears to be an unsigned shinto, and is likely shortened, it may be hard to get your investment back out of it if you do have it properly restored, as such restoration will be in the $4K range at least. The good news is that it is worth probably twice what you paid for it. Cheers, Bob Quote
