eljockvis Posted March 17, 2013 Report Posted March 17, 2013 hi folks i am quite new to nihonto and only previously owned 1 hozon paperd sword, can any members explain how the nbthk shinsa works because i put a wakizashi in to the 4-6th march nbthk shinsa via aoi-art after buying a sword from them, the fellow says it will take 3 months for the results which is fair enough (its in for hozon and tokubetsu hozon paper) , is it that all the swords must be in from the 4-6th and it takes 3 months to appraise them or are they all inspected in just the 3 days ? thanks for any info Quote
paulb Posted March 17, 2013 Report Posted March 17, 2013 Stu, last I heard there was a backlog for Hozon papering and it was taking several months to get through the process. The appraisal itself will be done in minutes, but there is a limit to how many the panel can do in one session. Eacg one then needs to be photographed and a paper prodcued which adds to the time taken regards Paul Quote
cabowen Posted March 17, 2013 Report Posted March 17, 2013 It always takes several months from submission to pick up. They receive many swords for shinsa each time and while it only takes a short time to look at the sword in most cases, some require more research. Additionally, there is a lot of administrative work involved in preparing the kanteisho. They have a rather small staff. I have a sword in the March shinsa as well. I expect it back around May. Quote
