Adrian S Posted March 16, 2013 Report Posted March 16, 2013 hi guys, This one is for Chris, George or Dave. I've picked up a sleeper in 44 mounts. It has a star stamp and the mei seems to be "Tsunahiro Saku Kore" (attached). It is dated March 1944. Can't find anything on this smith, any of you guys have anything on him? I was wondering if he was a relative of the current Kamakura smith Tsunahiro who claims direct decent from Masamune. cheers, Adrian S Quote
k morita Posted March 16, 2013 Report Posted March 16, 2013 Hi, This mei is not Tsunahiro but Tsuguhiro. He was Baba(family name) Tsuguhiro in Kagawa prefecture Quote
Adrian S Posted March 16, 2013 Author Report Posted March 16, 2013 thanks Moritasan, I wasn't sure. I'll look into Tsuguhiro. Quote
cabowen Posted March 16, 2013 Report Posted March 16, 2013 He studied at Kurihara's Denshujo. They are usually done in a gunome-choji. I have seen several of his blades; he was a pretty decent smith... Quote
Adrian S Posted March 16, 2013 Author Report Posted March 16, 2013 Thanks Chris. Yep, its gunome-choji, and it does seem decent enough with a better quality polish. Not my type of thing so will probably look to trade it. cheers, Quote
cabowen Posted March 16, 2013 Report Posted March 16, 2013 Please post some pictures if possible.... Quote
Adrian S Posted March 16, 2013 Author Report Posted March 16, 2013 G'day Chris, no problem, here ya go cheers, Quote
cabowen Posted March 17, 2013 Report Posted March 17, 2013 Thanks for sharing. Typical work by this smith. Looks to be a nice blade that you should have no trouble finding a new home for.... Quote
Adrian S Posted March 17, 2013 Author Report Posted March 17, 2013 Hi Chris, Just a quick one, this sword has a Star stamp on both sides. Haven't seen that before. It is a definate sleeper and straight from the vet's daughter. I wonder if this was done for any reason? cheers, Quote
cabowen Posted March 17, 2013 Report Posted March 17, 2013 Doubt it signifies anything other than typical Japanese thoroughness. I have seen it once before. Quote
