Here are a few signatures from the swords I have posted in another thread....Not being into kodogu, I have few references to help with these signatures...Any help appreciated...

Kozuka (shakudo nanako with teppo) Kazutoshi with kao (?):

tsuba (iron with gold) (Goto Seijo (?):

fuchi (all kodogu en suite -silver waves):

The mei on the fuchi reads "Shunkôsai Kaneaki" (春光斎兼明).

Haynes says: "born 1837, still living ca. 1912, Tokyo, family

name Uchida (内田), first name Kanejirô (金次郎)."

And Haynes says about Tomotoshi:

"Furyûsai (風龍斎), from a shakudô nanako kozuka with relief

inlay a gun in the style of the later Gotô school. M. Usui

collection, 1960." The index actually depicts exactly your

mei and kao Chris.

How interesting! Thank you very much....

Now I can speculate on who the former owner is of these swords!

Here is the kozuka. I would venture that the same person made the kogai....:

Just to complete the set, the tsuba mei is indeed Goto Seijo. There were 7 generations of this line Shitaya Goto and later generations made iron tsuba. I think this is iron is it not? John

Yes, it is iron. Well made and unusual....Not so sure about the signature. Anyone have any references or opinions?

Thanks John, appreciate your input.

I checked the Kinko Meikan. There are two signatures there and yours is in the ballpark. The Meikan does mention the difficulty distinguishing between generations. The kao are similar, with minute differences. I think you are alright. This group is ranked AA to A, so the work should tell the story. John
