I post this in tosogu because it is no longer an active auction and I wanted the opinions of the tsuba experts as it were. eBay auction number 200885297055. The pictures are not the greatest but was curious to hear your collective thoughts on signature, artist, and school as it seems to me the nicest I've seen on eBay in a very long time.

Please, don't make us work so hard to find the pictures. Post the pics that you think will illustrate your question. I went to the auction post and I would have been tempted to investigate further. I couldn't find a signature though. Maybe I missed that pic. John

Sorry about that John (and anyone else who had trouble). You actually have to access the old auction to get the pictures and I hadn't had a chance to copy them on a PC yet and I have never posted pics on the board before so again please forgive my lack of industry. Here goes:

Yes Doug, If I had been aware of it I would have contacted the seller for better pics for the tsuba alone at that price. What is strange is that he posted very few pics of the blade itself so I assume he was selling on the merits of the fittings and koshirae alone. John

Agreed. The blade is pretty brushed and hard to read but the fittings stood out to the seller I'm sure. I think I read HARUMITSU ____YASU with either HIDE or a kao and then the gold cartouche. I'm not a tsuba guy but for those with a penchant for kinko, is this Hamano, Yokoya or .....? Quality and signature seem too definitive to not be a known listed artist somewhere. The only tsuba book I have is the Koza kodogu so I was looking to see what everyone thought, thanks for your insights John.

I changed the title of this thread a bit so that I might learn a little more about quality in kinko fittings. Particularly, I have included another picture which shows the nanako. I understand that this work can come in a variety of quality levels and wanted to know where this fell in the spectrum. Thanks in advance for all of your consideration.

I would like to have this sword just for the fittings alone. They seem to be a good quality. If you were to use a scale based on 10, I would think a 7. Nanako is well done, shakudo dark, which I like, and the carved elements more than competent. John

The mei says "Shunkôdô Yasutaka" (春光堂安孝) but the Yasutaka in Haynes

is not the one here and the two artists using the gô "Shunkôdô" did not use

the name "Yasutaka". Thus I guess meikan-more...
