Mark Posted January 24, 2013 Report Posted January 24, 2013 i think we recently discussed the signature on this sword. The shape of the kissaki give the impression of a poorly made blade or a poor repair. Maybe you could attend a sword show or meet with a club and have someone look at it in hand Quote
Geraint Posted January 24, 2013 Report Posted January 24, 2013 That sounds like a very sensible idea. However what we can see from the photographs is that there appears to be a leather combat cover over a civil saya and that it has interesting menuki. This would suggest a civil sword carried into combat in the war. Worth taking some more advice on I would say. Cheers Quote
Jiro49 Posted January 25, 2013 Report Posted January 25, 2013 Any opinion on the mei? One character looks like an upside down 8 (hachi)...? Quote
bagamol Posted January 26, 2013 Author Report Posted January 26, 2013 It is in katakana and it is a name of a bird "kuhatsuteu" which is a very rare bird. It is from Kaibara Ekiken's book dated 1709 Quote
