peter Posted January 18, 2013 Report Posted January 18, 2013 Hello All, just a general question i,m sure must have been covered but was there a difference through the era's on the placement of menuki on the Tsuka or did it depend on the wrap or personal prefarence? many thanks, Peter Quote

myochin Posted January 20, 2013 Report Posted January 20, 2013 In Token Bijutsu n°656 there was an interesting article on Menuki: Menuki – Sono rekishi to igi ni tsuite 目貫・その歴史と意義について About the History and Meaning of menuki Paul. Quote
JamesH Posted January 22, 2013 Report Posted January 22, 2013 Very interesting read! Quote a) in case of an animal motif, the “heads” should be oriented toward fuchi while the “tails” should be oriented toward kashira; I actually read somewhere that animal/dragon heads should be facing the bearer of the sword, to show him this respect rather than the person the sword s directed towards. Perhaps some of the more knowledgeable members could offer their insight on this. James Quote
Kai-Gunto Posted January 23, 2013 Report Posted January 23, 2013 A is correct, their facing fuchi thats nearest the bearer. Quote
