Hi,

I buy a tsuka with a fuchi in 3 parts, first time I see that. I try to found informations in internet about it but found nothing. Did any of you have some ideas ?

Thanks very much

Christophe

Well, we talked about two-piece fuchi recently. But this one is new to me.

After looking at it for a moment, my first idea was that this might be an adaption to use the fittings in an aikuchi koshirae when you don't really have fitting (style) fuchi and koiguchi pieces. But I'm by far not an expert so this is just my guess.

But whatever the reason, it's beautiful and the craftsmanship seems to be very high too.

I think this is a two piece fuchi [or a one piece fuchi with a further adaptation] that has been adapted for another mount. The brass piece is a seppa like washer to take up the space left in the new mounting. The more I look the more I believe it is a standard fuchi adapted to fit. John

Unusual indeed! I have a two piece fuchi but never have seen a three piece one until now. It looks to me that the two piece was the original situation with a seppa adapted to be the third piece. It seems to be well done. I too would have liked to see the rtest of the koshirae. Aikuchi is indeed a possibility.

Probably an existing koshirae adapted to a longer nakago blade.

Or a thinner tsuba ? I quite enjoy looking at cleverly executed solutions like this, whatever the original rationale was. Makes you wonder what the relationship was between this piece of a mount and the owner. 8)
