Hi All - quick question, and I apologize in advance if I am taking this off topic.

Granted, I am still in the infantile stages of my Nihonto study, however the polish on the blade looks, well.....odd. It reminds me of the acid enhanced blades I often see on mass produced blades. Thoughts or comments?

Thanks,

Sam

Hi Sam,

Hard to tell for sure just from a few pictures but the treatment does come off as being a bit harsh (to put it kindly). The seller thinks he knows how to polish Nihonto and this could be some of his work.

What reminds you of acid? The name of the seller? :D

Seriously, I don't think this is an acid polish, neither seems it "harsh". Kesh is always flashy, which with some type of hamon looks bad. This is not to say the sword does not have proper polish, it is just that we see photos only and no impact on niku and shape. Surface looks good. Loose grain/kitae ware are not synonymous with "harsh polish"...
