Brian Posted January 9, 2013 Report Posted January 9, 2013 Hi all, Just a quick note to say that I will have limited access to the forum for about 10 days. Thanks to work, am finally getting my first trip to the USA. Leaving tomorrow, 2 Days in NY, followed by the big SHOT show in Vegas and an antiques arms show after Looking forward to hopefully only my first of many visits, but if anyone is registering for the first time or emails me, please note that I may have a bit limited access to the net to confirm memberships or reply to mail. Apparently the USA is not as advanced when it comes to 3G and data on cellphones as the rest of us I have organized a US data sim that should work, but iPhone is not an idea work tool. I leave you in the capable hands of our moderators who have my full permission to wield the heavy hammer. I will still be on daily, but emails etc will be delayed. Brian Quote

Brian Posted January 11, 2013 Author Report Posted January 11, 2013 Too tired to write much. Suffice to say that Delta cancelled our tickets without telling us, which I found out 12 hours before we flew. Then after huge fights we got them to reinstate but on an earlier flight as they sold out the first one. Then at the airport they gave away our seats. More huge fights. Finally given those scrap seats no one wants which split our group. Then missed our connecting flight in Atlanta. Then they lost our luggage. So now sitting in the hotel in NY without luggage hoping they find and deliver it. But on a better note, love NY! Wow. Second only to Tokyo. Going to go out and see if I can find some reasonable sushi in an hour or 2 if I am awake. No sleep for about 48 hours and only got here 5 hours ago. Vegas from Monday. You guys who live in or near NY are lucky. Brian Quote
John A Stuart Posted January 11, 2013 Report Posted January 11, 2013 There you go Brian; Delta= rubbish. My greatest fear when flying is my baggage especially when connecting on different airlines. I know it is chaotic for the handlers, having to rifle the baggage for valuables, unsecured pockets and niches and then transport them to the right place. Funny; my first thought in NY is to look for pizza!! Hey, if you get the chance post a pic of you in Times Sq. A rite of passage. Hope things go a little smoother here on out. John Quote

aeguy Posted January 11, 2013 Report Posted January 11, 2013 Brian, Sorry you weren't told before, but "DELTA" really stands for, "Don't Ever Leave The Airport". In general, US Domestic airlines have become exceptionally lame. I hope your trip here improves. Vegas should be a Blast! Best Regards, Quote
Brian Posted January 12, 2013 Author Report Posted January 12, 2013 Wish I had read about Deltas rep. before. My brother went to Vegas 3 days ago by coincidence. Lost luggage. Yes:- Delta. Have now met 4 other various couples, all with lost luggage, all Delta. Have just bounced awake at 1am. Awake but very tired. Damn jet lag. Have to try go back to sleep. Good sushi, loved Times Square. Tomorrow will see what comes. Will check out the Met on Sunday and see what they have on display in the Japanese section. Anything else to do in NY Nihonto-wise? Ken-Hawaii Posted January 13, 2013 Report Posted January 13, 2013 Take a couple of melatonin (available in any drugstore, 3 mg) 2-3 hours before you want to sleep, Brian. A real wonder (non-)drug! I've used it for decades on my many flights around the world, starting when I was flying to Vietnam on a far-too-regular basis. Ken Quote
jason_mazzy Posted January 15, 2013 Report Posted January 15, 2013 You should post these things in advance my friend... i am sure there are a few of us who could have arranged something and gotten together. Quote
Brian Posted January 23, 2013 Author Report Posted January 23, 2013 Yeah..I knew that..but because it was mainly work, and had the boss with me..didn't want to get too complicated with social stuff. There will be a next time, I promise Back now. Having a heck of a hard time with jetlag and what I would wish was just the flu but feels more like pneumonia. I don't remember Japan trying to kill me when I visited, so why does the USA try? :? 16 Hour flights when you can barely breathe are NOT fun. Life back to normal. Met up with Mike and Cyrus at the great antique arms fair. Somehow found myself buying a lovely kozuka even though I was determined I wasn't in buying mode. Had some good chats with Stephen on the phone too. All in all, a great trip. Till next time.. Brian Quote
sanjuro Posted January 23, 2013 Report Posted January 23, 2013 Welcome back...... We have all been good boys......Not a single locked thread while you were away. I wonder if something could be read into that????? Quote
watsonmil Posted January 23, 2013 Report Posted January 23, 2013 Dear Brian, Yes, ... I humbly take credit for keeping a lid on things and people in line ( Keith in particular ), ... so that while you were away no mud slinging, ... no political un-popular comments were tolerated and therefore no locked threads. Now that you .. Oh Great One are back at the helm, ... maybe we can have some fun again, ... albeit short lived ! ... Anonymouse Ron Quote
Rich S Posted January 23, 2013 Report Posted January 23, 2013 Brian - Glad you are back home safely and get over the flu (or whatever) quickly. Sorry about your Delta flights - they are the worse US carrier as others have said. Did you ever get your luggage? Any great finds at the shows? Rich S Quote
