Motorgun Posted November 26, 2012 Report Posted November 26, 2012 Took a chance and won an auction for a blade described as follows for $600: ANTIQUE KANENORI SAMURAI SHORT SWORD Antique Japanese Koto Period, samurai short sword (wakizashi) by Kanenori: the blade length (nagasa) of 51cm, with a medium point (chu-kissaki); the temperline (hamon) of somewhat pointed curves (gunome) and the forging pattern (kitae) of somewhat burl-wood grain (mokume); with a silvered collar (habaki); in a wood storage scabbard (saya) Will take some detailed pics when I get it. Hopefully, I did not make a huge mistake at this low price. Quote
nagamaki - Franco Posted November 27, 2012 Report Posted November 27, 2012 Two piece habaki and shirasaya alone cost someone more than $600. Quote
Motorgun Posted November 27, 2012 Author Report Posted November 27, 2012 Franco, Those were my thoughts exactly. If the blade turns out half decent it probably was a good buy. They were trying to get $1800 for it. Quote
