blades87 Posted October 4, 2011 Report Posted October 4, 2011 The interviews have been re-posted after I fixed an issue with the video decoder. New links have been added to the original post and I have added some more videos today. Again, thank you for the feedback. Derek, I checked the Togishi Pt 1 video and the audio appeared to be fine. If one of the videos is not playing correctly, please send me the YouTube link to the video and I will look at it. Regards,
Derek Posted October 4, 2011 Report Posted October 4, 2011 I just tried again, and it works fine now..... probably just error on my end Thx again for posting them. -Derek
Brian Posted October 4, 2011 Report Posted October 4, 2011 Merged the topic with this one, which is a sticky and best covers Youtube videos and Nihonto. Looking forward to watching these. Brian

cisco-san Posted February 21, 2014 Report Posted February 21, 2014 Hello, a few days ago there was an interesting movie on TV (in German) concerning the missing Honjo Masamune. Now it´s on Youtube: Some well knows guys from this Board can be seen edit:typo
Brian Posted February 21, 2014 Report Posted February 21, 2014 Was it this one? I find it very interesting what the commenter there says about Sgt Coldy Bimore..... Sgt Golding (Colby?) from Baltimore?? Hmmmmmm... Brian
ROKUJURO Posted February 21, 2014 Report Posted February 21, 2014 I have no voice with this video. There could be a similarity between the OSHIGATA and the blade, but the condition of the latter does not allow a firm statement, I think.
drbvac Posted February 22, 2014 Report Posted February 22, 2014 I could not get the original link from Paul to work - has it changed?
cisco-san Posted February 24, 2014 Report Posted February 24, 2014 Klaus Forboden link edit: sorry maybe my fault - there was the "private" tag enabled Please try again!
bobtail44 Posted May 11, 2014 Report Posted May 11, 2014 Hi All, I have selected that all videos are vetted before submition to keep out the Naruto crowd. Paul I'm part of the Bleach crowd so I guess that's ok Trent
Jim Rogers Posted September 11, 2014 Report Posted September 11, 2014 I don't know if this has been posted but a 28 minute video on swordmaking. Nice for newcomers. Jim
Brian Posted September 13, 2014 Report Posted September 13, 2014 And another quite good video on Nihonto: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0VhmEyrNQpY Brian
Paul Martin Posted October 15, 2014 Author Report Posted October 15, 2014 My latest effort, By the way, the Saka-Choji blade is available if anyone is interested. 3 million JPY 1
Guido Posted October 15, 2014 Report Posted October 15, 2014 Hi Paul, were the scenes of Yoshimitsu at work taken at Takano Yukimitsu's forge?
Paul Martin Posted October 15, 2014 Author Report Posted October 15, 2014 No, they were at the Hayashibara sponsored forge in Okayama before it closed. He only has the forge at Niigata now.
c2tcardin Posted November 21, 2014 Report Posted November 21, 2014 Just came across this video/documentary on Yoshindo Yoshihara last night, it's 48 minutes and really worth watching. It says it was filmed in 1997 but appears to have only been put online this past October.
Greg F Posted July 24, 2015 Report Posted July 24, 2015 Great time saving idea. Keep up the good work!!! Thanks
Newbflat Posted December 22, 2015 Report Posted December 22, 2015 Lovely....That is the most detailed video if the forging process I have seen. Thanks Yoshindo Yoshihara, I feel you have reveled all your secrets so the cats out of the bag now. I'm going to make a forge and whip out some swords. Can't be that hard.. Right? After all I watched the video very carefully. Maybe I should watch it twice? Anyways, I should have a masterpiece or two in a week or so. Bill
Paul Martin Posted January 4, 2016 Author Report Posted January 4, 2016 Our first video of 2016 continuing with our Japanese sword video magazine. It is another in our 'Masters of the Craft' series, featuring a slice in the life of Mukansa (master) Japanese sword polisher Abe Kazunori sensei. 4
Jean Posted January 4, 2016 Report Posted January 4, 2016 Saw it yesterday Paul, fantastic. BTW, happy new year and best wishes 1
Stephen Posted January 4, 2016 Report Posted January 4, 2016 May i ask what is painted on to bring out the hadori, dont know why always thought it was done with finger stones....good to learn something
Jean Posted January 4, 2016 Report Posted January 4, 2016 Hadori is done with fingerstone as shown in the film. 1
Greg F Posted January 4, 2016 Report Posted January 4, 2016 Isnt it some sort of a paste with antler in it that they use with the finger stones. Great video Paul. Thanks and happy new year. Greg
John A Stuart Posted January 4, 2016 Report Posted January 4, 2016 Google nugui. There are many formulae. John
Guido Posted January 5, 2016 Report Posted January 5, 2016 May i ask what is painted on to bring out the hadori, dont know why always thought it was done with finger stones....good to learn something Some polishers "paint" the hadori before actually polishing it, to better visualize how the final proportions and flow will look, and as a guideline. 4
SAS Posted January 5, 2016 Report Posted January 5, 2016 Nice video; fantastic work on a fantastic sword. I can't second guess a mukansa polisher, but i think that sword would have looked great in sashikomi. PS: I just went to Namikawa to try to see how much that massive uchigumori stone would cost.....easily in excess of $600 dollars. Wish it was mine! 1
Paul Martin Posted January 5, 2016 Author Report Posted January 5, 2016 The explanation for the powdered deer antler is in the video, no?
Stephen Posted January 5, 2016 Report Posted January 5, 2016 ill have to watch fully without FF now and then
