Christophe Posted October 31, 2012 Report Posted October 31, 2012 NTHK or NBTHK ? To papered a sword there are : the NTHK society and the NBTHK society. How make a choice ? I heard than the two of them are very good, and than the NTHK can give you info about why the sword presented is papered or rejected. I work now on the translation of the mei and stamps of a 66.3 cm blade who was a gift, and think to present it for paper. Which society do you recommend for that ? Thanks very much for your help. cabowen Posted October 31, 2012 Report Posted October 31, 2012 To complicate matters, there are two NTHK organizations. One, which I am a director of, is the NTHK-NPO, which is the non-profit NTHK. If the blade is from WWII with arsenal stamps, it may not be traditionally made and will not be papered. You might post pictures of it here to solicit opinions. Quote
Christophe Posted October 31, 2012 Author Report Posted October 31, 2012 2 more pics, I think showa period Quote
paulb Posted October 31, 2012 Report Posted October 31, 2012 Chris, It has a seki arsenal stamp on it which suggests it is not traditionaly made. The hot stamp on the bottom is that of kanezane who has been much discussed here recently. While he did make Gendaito the majority of his work appears to be made using mill steel and oil quenched. There has been much discussion here recently about which stamped swords will and wont paper. Unless something dramatic has happened in recent months a sword with a seki stamp is not regarded as traditionally made and would not therefore paper. regards Paul Quote
Christophe Posted October 31, 2012 Author Report Posted October 31, 2012 Thanks very much for your reply. I ignored that. I will look on the board about seki stamp and and the discussion you mention. Thanks again Christophe Quote
