Viper6924 Posted October 28, 2012 Report Posted October 28, 2012 Hi! Need some translation for some text inside of a Noh-mask. I guess perhaps a poem. All help is highly appreciated, as always! Jan Quote
Gunome Posted October 28, 2012 Report Posted October 28, 2012 Hello, last kanji of the first pic is "saku". So, the 2 other kanji are probably the name of the maker. Second pic on the right is a date : 5th month of the 58th year of Showa (1984) hope it will help you Sebastien Quote
Viper6924 Posted October 28, 2012 Author Report Posted October 28, 2012 Thanks a lot, Sebastien! Great help. Life would be so much easier if kanji-reading would be on my list of skills Thanks again! Jan Quote

Baka Gaijin Posted October 28, 2012 Report Posted October 28, 2012 Good evening Jan and Kunitaro san. Here's a link to the Shiwa Jou (Old man or Elder) mask and the type of Noh plays it would feature in: http://www.the-noh.com/sub/jp/index.php ... class_id=1 Cheers Quote
Viper6924 Posted October 29, 2012 Author Report Posted October 29, 2012 Thanks for the confirmation of the date and maker, kunitaro. And again Malcom, great link. This will be a christmaspresent to my mother (I`m such a good son). She likes masks and this will be her first Noh. Nice to be able to tell her the story behind it. I like the woodgrains and overall look of it. /Jan Quote
