tesscoothome123 Posted October 25, 2012 Report Posted October 25, 2012 I was hoping someone could help me translate what these papers mean and how to start to understand them. This is something completely new to me. Thank you much, John Quote
cabowen Posted October 25, 2012 Report Posted October 25, 2012 That is the Japanese sword registration license required by law to be with the sword at all times. It is also required by law to be turned in prior to export. If you have the sword and license and are not in Japan, it means whomever exported the sword from Japan did so illegally. The license contains a description of the sword, the prefecture it was issued in, the date it was issued, etc. on one side and the law pertaining to the license on the other side. Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted October 25, 2012 Report Posted October 25, 2012 John, the local education board's registration card will tell you little apart from the measurements of your Wakizashi and whether it has a Mei or not (yours is Mumei). Two Mekugi ana, it says. The bottom part would be for a gun, but that is crossed out. The sword was registered four years ago in Saitama. This card bears the registration number, which some dealers are at pains to hide. The card does not say "copy" on it, so it looks like an original. Quote
