Someone offered me this Tsuba but the price was too high for my likings (I haven't quite gotten to collecting Tsubas and am new to swords in general). The person who owns this claims it is edo period with gold & brass inlay. As I know nothing on Tsubas I thought I'd just throw it up on the forums for people to appreciate (or choke if it's a repro). The pictures I've attached are the only pictures I've seen of it.

Brandon,

It is a real tsuba probably from the late Edo period and the

worst thing about it is that it has been over cleaned in the

mistaken belief that it would look better with a bit of a

polish to the dark patina and copper, not so, it only lessens the value.

What was the asking price you thought too much?

It looks to be a slightly better than average quality Hamano school piece. The overall condition is fair. As the others have pointed out some of the soft metal inlay's patina has been rubbed off it's actually a fairly simple process for a professional (that would be me ;) ) to restore. Much less trouble than repolishing a sword :D
