Christophe Posted September 23, 2012 Report Posted September 23, 2012 Your paper is a Torokusho. In order to legally own a sword in Japan it has to be registered at the education board of the prefecture, its the copy of this paper you that you have. It needed to have the export paper. It said : tanto, 29.8cm. sori 0.5, 2 mekugi-ana, name on the tang : Masamune Christophe Quote
Marius Posted September 23, 2012 Report Posted September 23, 2012 Chip, read this: http://www.jssus.org/nkp/japanese_sword_laws.html quote: "It should be noted that the Torokusho is not a certificate of authenticity; only the length, Sori, number of Mekugi-ana and the Mei (name inscribed) are stated, not whether it's authentic (Shoshin 正真) or false (Gimei 偽銘)." Henry Wilson Posted September 24, 2012 Report Posted September 24, 2012 The torokusho seems to say: -the sword was registered in Okayama Prefecture -It is signed MASAMUNE -It has two holes in the tang -The curvature depth is 0.5 cm -The length from tip to mune is 29.8 cm -It is a tanto -The document number is 121822 There seems to be no reference to a horimono Does the sword in question match this information? PS there could be some mistakes as I am reading upside down :? Quote
