Well done to Fukushi sensei!

I just found out that after eighteen years of (~) monthly articles Fukushi sensei has completed his work in the NBTHK Token Bijutsu publication. I cannot even begin to fathom the depth of his knowledge and truly wish him congratulations and many thanks for such an endeavor over so many years. Just the thought of this work is most humbling. Any chance of my ever thinking I 'know' anything in this field has been permanently quashed... LOL!

Does this mean Fukushi sensei is retiring from writing this almost monthly section for the NBTHK monthly magazine? I did notice this months maginze did not have his tosogu section. His work along with Markus S. translations have greatly contributed to my understanding of tosogu. Thanks for providing additional information. I still often refer to his four articles discussing the Umetada school.

I hope the NBTHK Tokyo branch has someone younger to keep writing about tosogu for the monthly magazine possibly one of Fukushi sensei students. I am assuming someone of his status has a few students.

Fukushi sensei has completely retired offfcially from the NBTHK, he is getting quite elderly and is now enjoying his retirement in his new home. His newset book about the themes of the kodogu is a very informative and welcome addition to my library. It also has english translation done by his son explaining about each piece.

We are actually trying at the moment to get this entire series translated from

the beginning to the end. We need to have the agreement of Fukushi-sensei

or his son respectively so that we can use the pictures from his enormous

archive (and the text of course).

 

Let´s see. I am not in Japan this year. So this might take a while.

Where can Fukushi sensei book be purchased if you live in the USA? Do you have it for sale at your website or can you buy the book at the NBTHK Japanese Sword Museum in Tokyo? Please don't say that it can only be purchased on Yahoo Auctions Japan. :lol: I love that Umetada Myoju tsuba on the cover. I currently have a nice photo of that tsuba from one of my issues of NBTHK monthly magazine.

I received my copy of Fukushi sensei book The Art Appreciation of Japanese Sword Fittings today. What a wonderful book and a fine read with many good color photos of Juyo level and above tosogu.

Its called the eBay mark up. Will not offend others by providing more examples of this effect. :? Still a really great book to read and understand the designs on tosogu. All provided examples are Juyo level or above tosogu which makes looking at the book a real treat. :D
