I have this koshirae for a long time now, and thinking to mount it (add tsunagi) but the habaki is a little to big. I can ask to adjust it to the saya or ask for a new one (habaki and tsuba are shakudo). New shakudo are very very expensive. I face two choice : adjust ot ask to a new one. Did some one can help me ?

Easiest thing is to have someone qualified remove a bit of material from the koiguchi so the habaki fits inside correctly. Assuming of course the habaki isn't too large to make this impossible.

Hi Ruben.

now the habaki fit to the fuchi in proportion , and the nakago ana of the tsuba to, so I think I will ask to remove a bit of material from the koiguchi so the habaki fits inside correctly> I know a professional in Kyoto who can do it and the tsunagi for a reasonable price.

Dear Christophe,

I am new here.

"Yoroshiku..."

To make "Ki-Habaki (wooden habaki) is an option.

from Ho-wood (Magnoria), same material as Shirasaya and Tsunagi.

If you are living in Japan. shirasaya maker could make one. they can make Tsunagi with habaki separate or in one pice.

if you are handy, you can make it by yourself as well.

Hi Kunitaro,

dozo yoroshiku...

I think your advice is good. It is better to make the habaki as part (or separate part) of the tsunagi. It is probably cheaper and this does not damage the original shakudo habaki.

Dear Christophe,

What a pleasant koshirae! Just wanted to ask why you think the habaki is too big? Is it a habaki added to replace one that perhaps was left with the blade, in which case as it is not original to the koshirae then a wooden one would seem like the best move.
