Marius Posted September 11, 2012 Report Posted September 11, 2012 A friend of mine has asked me about the motives on this tsuba and their symbolic meaning. While it is a easy to identify karigane the wavy stuff and the objects which look like some weights are a mystery. Any ideas? Quote
Ronin Akuma Posted September 11, 2012 Report Posted September 11, 2012 No info, but kind of reminds me of this one: http://www.antiques.com/classified/12427/Antique-Japanese-Tsuba-Momoyama-Period-Sword-Hilt Quote
Marius Posted September 12, 2012 Author Report Posted September 12, 2012 OK, I will answer myself to an extent: wave at 10 and 5 o'clock - chidori wave at 2 o'clock - sea-waves objects at 9 and 3 o'clock - squid objects at 7 and 12 o'clock - no idea Quote
yogoro Posted September 16, 2012 Report Posted September 16, 2012 This tsuba is from aoi-art.com - sale section. Descriptions as - Monyo (pattern design) no zu - http://www.aoi-art.com/fittings/tsuba/F12279.html What is meant by the term "Monyo no zu " ? Mikolaj Quote
MauroP Posted September 17, 2012 Report Posted September 17, 2012 Monyo (or better mon'yō) = 紋様 means pattern/design. And 紋様の図 translate “theme of patterns”. (I’m not proficient in Japanese, I’m just a skillful web-surfer) Quote
