I don't know. Could be the picture quality but something about the mei/yasurimei/nakago does not look right. The yasurimei looks too uniform/deep. And the mei (though I could be wrong looks like gibberish at first glance).

I hope I'm wrong but are you sure it's not a chinese fake?

I'm going to go with "not traditional nihonto". The lines don't look right. Having been buffed, this could alter things but the nakago and mei (which I think reads "something, DAI MASA?") just don't look right.

My 2 cents. Hope I'm wrong. Can you post a pict of the entire nakago?

eugene walton,

The sword look mumei to me...the signature is added on later....Someone thought it could sell better if there is a mei go on the tang. He/she could add the signature on the tang.. That is my opinion.

could this be a Paul Chen, or similar sword? the width of the nakago looks strange when compared with the blade width (reminds me of Hankei ). The blade looks better than a modern Chinese copy but some of the "martial arts" practical swords i have seen have temper and reasonable shape.

The rust pattern isn't at all consistent, either, so I doubt that it's "real" by Nihonto standards. The mei also looks almost too perfect, even if I can't translate it.

I wonder why anyone would try to disguise/mimic/masquerade a sword with an otherwise authentic-looking nagasa?
