bubba-san Posted August 25, 2012 Author Report Posted August 25, 2012 Chris ,this is the closest I could find ? of all smiths in the Bungo province ! http://nihontoclub.com/smiths/SAD15 ..... do you have link to other translation ? James Quote
cabowen Posted August 25, 2012 Report Posted August 25, 2012 There is no link. It is an entry in the Nihonto Meikan, a book all collectors should own. Quote
bubba-san Posted August 25, 2012 Author Report Posted August 25, 2012 Sorry chris , I dont own the book all I have is an old copy of Hawleys . I am not collecter per say I mainly forge/polish blades and knives . Although I do have a collection . Thanks for your help as I am blind as a bat and I rely on collecters who can see . I see that book has been translated to english by hawley , its out of print so it runs about $350 -400 if you can find decent copy . Quote
kazarena Posted August 25, 2012 Report Posted August 25, 2012 Hi James, This is the smith mentioned in Meikan: http://nihontoclub.com/smiths/SAD16 Regards, Stan Quote
bubba-san Posted August 25, 2012 Author Report Posted August 25, 2012 Stan , I appreciate what you have done . I have to be careful when trying to determine who a certain smith is or was . With my bad eyesite it makes it even worse . Guess I will have to update my library and get a couple new pairs of Glasses . Regards James Quote

bubba-san Posted August 25, 2012 Author Report Posted August 25, 2012 Forging and polishing is easy ... Havent you heard of the blind swordsmith . I just saw an article when looking for a copy and they claimed it had been translated ,they were asking 350$ . You will have to look it up yourself , cant remember where I saw it . I am more color blind than having poor eyesight although I wear 300 x glasses to see. Has anyone ever claimed you may be quite contrary :D .See work in progress. the steel is made from Japanese black sand ore. James Quote
bubba-san Posted August 25, 2012 Author Report Posted August 25, 2012 Sorry , got carried away .Here are books I was refering to . on bottom right of right page is the word engraved , I believe that is english http://www.nihonto.com/8.4.10.html I could only see it with magnifying glass . james Quote
cabowen Posted August 25, 2012 Report Posted August 25, 2012 The Meikan was used in the compilation done by Hawley but it was not translated verbatim. Hawley's work was never properly edited- it is filled with duplications and mistakes....As I said, there isn't an English, verbatim translation of the Meikan. In any case, glad to have been able to point you towards your man. Quote
