Help with translation

I need some help with translation. I can barely make it out , I have poor eyesight . Would be grateful for some help . Thank you

豊後國定秀作 Hard to believe its that old ? it looks like a later sword , I need 2 pair of glasses to see kanji

There is no link. It is an entry in the Nihonto Meikan, a book all collectors should own.

I mainly forge/polish blades and knives . Although I do have a collection . Thanks for your help

 

as I am blind as a bat and I rely on collecters who can see .

 

 

I see that book has been translated to english by hawley , its out of print so it runs about $350 -400

 

if you can find decent copy .

Stan , I appreciate what you have done . I have to be careful when trying to determine who a certain smith is or was .

With my bad eyesite it makes it even worse . Guess I will have to update my library and get a couple new pairs of Glasses . Regards James

that must make forging and polishing rather difficult.....

 

The Nihonto Meikan has not been translated into English.

Forging and polishing is easy ... Havent you heard of the blind swordsmith . I just saw an article when looking for a copy and they claimed it had been translated ,they were asking 350$ . You will have to look it up yourself , cant remember where I saw it . I am more color blind than having poor eyesight although I wear 300 x glasses to see.

Has anyone ever claimed you may be quite contrary :D .See work in progress. the steel is made from Japanese black sand ore.

Sorry , got carried away .Here are books I was refering to . on bottom right of right page is the word engraved , I believe that is english http://www.nihonto.com/8.4.10.html I could only see it with magnifying glass .

The Meikan was used in the compilation done by Hawley but it was not translated verbatim. Hawley's work was never properly edited- it is filled with duplications and mistakes....As I said, there isn't an English, verbatim translation of the Meikan.

I've heard stories of blind swordsmen, but I can't remember any about blind swordsmiths
