I found this "blade" last week. The size 14.4 cm (22.5 with nakago) is not common ( I can't found anything like this in the books I have), it's look like a big kozuka blade.

The inscription said : 丹波守吉道 (tamba no kami yoshimichi), for the first kanji I deduced it from what remains . Did someone have an idea ? People tell me it's look like an Umabari.

What do you think ?

Thanks

Christophe

It is certainly a heavily worn and reshaped kogatana, but I am not sure it should be called 'worn out". I've seen heavily reworked blades like this in use on mounted swords. These things seem to happen, tho I can't say why. I'd count it a usable piece.

Thanks very much for the infos, I never think about kogatana because I see only new one ( I visit often a shop in sakai who's owner forged between other kogatana when order, and the shape look like different for me. I just begin to seriously studied Japanese sword.

Thanks for the info Koichi san.
