Looking for opinions and experience with realnihonto.com.

The site is a royal pain in the neck - it has a positively weird photo browser, it gives you no prices, and it requires registration (to be approved by the owner of the site) if you want to... well, I don't know what benefits you get from registration :(

Maybe there is a good dealer behind it, but the site is extremely discouraging. I would immediately forego it, but a friend of mine has asked me to buy some tsuba for him, up to a certain price limit. I am waiting the second day to be admitted to registration and I am quite irritated about this. :steamed:

Any experience with that seller? Apart from the obvious pain-in-the-neck site?

thanks

He deals on eBay and the swords and fittings in his site are not for sale. I inquired a couple of years ago and was told its all in boxes? with no plans to sell...

The question I have is on his auctions he never uses nihonto terms nor does he translate the mei, yet he owns those blades that are on his web page? Maybe he omits the details on the auctions to reduce liability..?

Christian Chaffee is a member here, and has been in the process of "launching this webside" for a while now.

You can search the forum for info on the site.

I like sword story #3 personally...especially when reviewing the old thread here on that sword. ;)

Hi Guys,

It is me Christian Chaffee. I am the owner of realnihonto.com. I know my website has been on ice for about the last 5 years, so I need to explain what is going on.

I have been working for the last 16 years to bring San Diego a historic streetcar system. This project has been all consuming for the last few years, and I had to let many other projects sit on a back burner, as one guy can only do so much. Please check out my historic streetcar website here:sandiegohistoricstreetcars.com. This project can change the face of San Diego with a clean green transportation system which will also be a heritage tourist destination.

If you put my name (Christian Chaffee) and (San Diego) into your google search engine, you will see what I have been up to, and why I have been so busy.

I am planning on getting my website functioning properly by Christmas. I still have every sword and fitting you see on the website, plus many many more which will be added to it. For everyone who has emailed me (and been ignored), you will be getting an email before the website goes active, with a discount coupon good for any item on the website. I know it was rude to not answer your emails, but I have been living a life where I work 12 to 16 hours a day, at the end of everyday, my "things to do" list was longer than when the day started.

I will start responding to this thread regularly, and keep you guys posted on progress.

I can be reached at (619) 299-3448 if you have any questions.

Thanks, Christian Chaffee

Christian,

thanks for the information. I would suggest you take the site down until you have time to answer emails and actually sell your items.

Well folks,

look at the website it clearly states that ordering is postponed until further notice.

I do not think it would be very wise to take a site down regarding SEO and the loss of page rank. :doubt:

Cheers,

Oh, really? Where? In some deeply hidden sub-page? This should be posted on the first page and it should be immediately clear that the site is suspended. If I were the owner, I would take the site offline.

Anyway, I would suggest EOT, there is no point wasting more time on that one.

Mariusz,

You are not happy with the way this site is managed but you can't help it. So skip it, forget it and stop making a fuss about it.

There are tenth of other sites to deal with :glee:
