Dear Matt,

May I echo Ian's assessment, ... from what I see you have done a really nice job of restoration. May I ask what you used in the process of cleaning up these pieces ?

Thanks to all for the compliments!

I used a jewelers sonic to loosen most of the rust, soaked about 3-4 hours. Then I took a tool my friend made me which is basically a pencil shape but made out of bone and used that to remove more of the rust. Then a little choji oil and emry cloth and then back to the bone tool and so on.. I lost a little metal in some places but not too much...

I hate seeing these old fittings go to waste and since I cant polish swords I wanted to try my hand at this. A friend is sending me a few pieces to work on for him so when they're done ill post pics of them as well..

Again thanks!!!!

Hi Matt L.,

Nice job. :) Keep up the good work. I normally only work on plain iron as anything will inlays like that is really hard to work with. Post more photos of your future work.

Great results Matt, I would never have thought it possible. Just an idea, rather than emery paper have you tried a fibreglass pen? Roy swears by it. Principle being that it gets at the rust but not the base metal.
