Since the active eBay auction is ending in 21 hours, and has hit reserve...how can you claim it is almost yours or you have agreed on a price with the seller? :?

It is not going to go for a bargain...about what it is worth. If you really want to keep spending around $1500-1800...why not just ask the members here who has a good deal? You can get a nice waki for that price.

Because I have talked with the owner of it, and I have agreed to higher price on it, Not sure why he has not ended the auction on it, unless he thinks he will get more out of it, I told him what i would pay for it, and not a penny more.

Some people amaze me on they do things, and the main reason why I didn't want to post any pics of it, the last time I did that someone in here went and out bid me, and bought it under me, as i know it happened as the guy messaged me, and told me that the winner saw the sword from where I had posted it in these forums.

So I'm a little hesitant on posting them in here now, I thought I had the deal locked in on it, unless it happened to me again.

Brian,

how you negoitiate deals is entirely up to you. However I do not think it is wise to post things claiming ownership until the sword is in hand or payment made. This is the second time you have posted a sword saying you had bought it only for it to appear as a live auction on ebay. I am not saying you are being dishonest but it can certainly cause confusion and make people suspicious. You must remember this board has been going for a long while and there have been a number of examples of people claiming ownership to gain information prior to bidding or negotiating on a sword.

I believe at one time it was a rule here that we would not discuss values on live auctions, something that seems to have fallen by the wayside over time.

I also question your lack of understanding of some people. If you are happy to have someone end an auction early for your benefit and they are prepared to do it, why are you then surprised if they do something equally unreasonable to you?

As I think has been suggested before I am afraid that the problem you have experienced is a result of your own impatience and over enthusiasm.

Yes, i agree with you , but on this one, I originally posted just questions about it, as I wanted to make sure the members in here had a chance to look it over until I agreed upon his price.

If you look at all my post, no where did I say it was mine yet, I was asking questions about it, and that's it.

I learned my lesson the last time, this time i actually had worked out the deal with the owner just yesterday that i would buy it at his asking price, i never said anywhere that it was mine, I only asked questions about, and the reason why I did not post it in the ebay section was what happened was what i was afraid was going to happen, someone in here saw it, and made a offer to buy it , trying to buy it out from under me, so to say.

Paul, I did not say it was mine yet, I was just asking questions about it, and such.

Brian I'm with Paul, if you don't have the item in hand or payed and closed the deal, it's not really yours yet. Sure you can make offers to the seller but unless you 2 agree and close the deal it's still anyones game. You can't really blame the seller if he doesn't end the auction, if you 2 haven't agreed on a deal. If you both have agreed to it you might question the credibility of the seller. However I tend to keep a policy on Finnish auction site that if there is a bid on the item I refuse to end it early because it would be very rude regarding other intrested parties. As I don't follow eBay I can't tell how things usually work there, but there have been several buyers (10) bidding on this item so it would be very rude to cancel this auction before the ending time. Someone might wait until the last moment before making their final offer.

And this is an open forum, if you put information (measurements, pics etc.) of an ongoing auction/sale on an open forum, and people discuss it then everyone intrested can see the outcome of that discussion. Someone might get a spark on that item and maybe buy it. The outbidder in last case may or may not be someone in this forum, as the information is available for those that search. Many people who are not members here still browse this forum.

*EDIT*

Well I missed that it's not yours yet fact. I thought that agreeing on the price meant you had bought it.

I actually went back and looked, as I thought I never said it was mine, I did say i was working out a deal on it, as i have been talking with the owner of it, and yes i did say that it would be my third Nihonto, no where in any of my post did i say it was mine yet.

I was asking questions about it, and nothing more, please show me where i said it was mine, I don't think I did say that anywhere.

Please read over my post, I never said anywhere that it was mine, I messaged the seller about it, he said he would end the auction early at a set price, so please show me where I said anywhere in the post that I said it was mine, I only asked questions about it, and that's it, please re-read what i wrote.

I thought it was mine, but never posted it was mine, as I agreed to his asking price, and then all of a sudden he changed his mind on it, because someone else did what i said.

I NEVER SAID ANYWHERE THAT IT WAS MINE, IN ANY OF THE POST I MADE, NO WHERE....

Some people here do not like to get in the middle of active auctions and like to know the circumstances before they comment. To avoid confusion in the future, why not simply say upfront when you are asking questions on an active auction item that it is in fact an active auction item, and don't say anything about ownership, deal in the works, etc., until the item is in your hand. I can't keep up with all the permutations and twists and turns....It's either in your hand yours, or it's not.

The last time I said it was an ebay auction, I had someone that did not know a thing about it, and as soon as i put it out on here , I had an member go in and message the seller, and buy it from me, I know this to be a fact, because the seller of that sword actually tried to pull a bidding war with me and the other guy saying the other guy mentioned that I had posted it in here for everyone to see.

Plus in this post, I never once said it was mine, I was only asking questions about it, nothing more.

Brian,

If you come in here seeking advice on an auction item, you should be aware that this is the drawback of an open forum. Everyone can seek advice, everyone can give advice and everyone can read what everyone else is posting. eBay sellers are just that, sellers, and as such will sell to the highest bidder. So I don't really know what you're getting in a twist over? Because the free info you received here was also used by someone else to out bid you on the world's largest online auction site?

For future reference, please make it clear up front that your info request concerns an eBay auction - because some of the membership are not that comfortable giving info that might impact selling prices. That's why we have the eBay and auctions section.

Even better, you pick up the guys on the board you trust the most, and you PM them asking their expertise. Choose them well :glee:

That's the wisest thing you can do, I recall an English saying:

Once bite, twice shy

A very wise saying, and yes from now on out, I will only message certain people in here about the item(s), as this has happened to me once, and i guess there are some members in here that have no idea what honor, and morals mean.

I would never go in and bid on an item that someone in here has expressed interest in, I would not like it done to me so why would I do it to someone else, but I'm starting to see who would do that exact same thing to other members, and yes they will be added to my foe list.

Thanks Jean, much appreciated.
