pike-56 Posted August 5, 2012 Report Posted August 5, 2012 I have a few questions about a recent purchase. I would be very interested to know 1. What you believe the age of this blade to be? 2. It has a chip on edge and I'm wondering if this can be repaired or do I just have to learn to live with it? 3. I've tried to take some pictures of the blade, I'm not quite sure what is going on in this blade and would appreciate any information you can give me. When I received this sword it was missing it's Tsuba and Fuchi. The blade measures just under 27 inches now but looks to have been shortened at least a couple of times. It must have been a pretty long sword in it's day. I cannot see any markings on the nakago. Any information will be greatly appreciate and I look forward to your comments. http:// http:// http:// http:// http:// http:// _____________ Dave P Quote
NihontoEurope Posted August 5, 2012 Report Posted August 5, 2012 Hello, I think it is a Bungo Takada sword. If you can provide some additional photos of boshi, hamon and hada I can check tomorrow. It looks to be hitatsura/ full temper. Please verify. It helps to know. /Martin Quote

cabowen Posted August 5, 2012 Report Posted August 5, 2012 The chips could be taken out but it would be a lot of work and require a polisher who had professional training to do it properly. Quote
Jean Posted August 5, 2012 Report Posted August 5, 2012 The polisher shall have to cheat or there won't be any hamachi left, the first hakobore are about the size of the hamachi.. Quote
NihontoEurope Posted August 5, 2012 Report Posted August 5, 2012 Dave, I think you need to polish your photo skills : ) Bad image focus makes it difficult for me to help. Please check the pictures before you post. /Martin Quote

pike-56 Posted August 5, 2012 Author Report Posted August 5, 2012 I'm adding a few pics I took outdoors, hopefully it will show a little more of what you need to see on the blade. Does anyone have any suggestions of who could do this type of work and would this blade warrant that kind of investment? Thanks for all the information and yes I do need to work on my photo skills.
