Nicko Posted August 5, 2012 Report Posted August 5, 2012 Is this Japanese? Is it a Japanese smith. Any help would be appreciated. Ps I am expecting something cheap. I think it says Fu shan tin Fu? Regards Nick Quote
sencho Posted August 5, 2012 Report Posted August 5, 2012 Not Japanese... chinese crap made to sell on ebay... Not even worth the scrap value, and certainly not worth the time to try to read the horrendous Chinese characters. Hope you didn't buy this... Cheers Quote

Nicko Posted August 5, 2012 Author Report Posted August 5, 2012 Yep I bought it at a market for $50 dollars. I guess I can chop trees with it now and save for a good Japanese one. What would people on this forum say is a good cheaper Japanese sword to buy? ... I guess there would not be such a thing because you guys bought them all already. Ps thanks for the quick reply. sencho Posted August 5, 2012 Report Posted August 5, 2012 Nick, Good and cheaper don't usually go in the same sentence when talking about Nihonto... but you may be able to find something under 4 figures to suit your purpose... The first thing is to understand what you are looking at before you open your wallet, and that means research through the web, books or sword shows (where you can get up close and personal with true nihonto). If you find all the books and research terribly boring and need to cut to the chase (like I did a few years back) use a reputable dealer and prepare to part with some cabbage. Cheers. PS... I wouldn't chop any trees, weeds or anything else with this rubbish... could fracture mid stroke and do something very nasty... best place for this is cut up and thrown in the bin or furnace!! Quote
NihontoEurope Posted August 5, 2012 Report Posted August 5, 2012 Yep I bought it at a market for $50 dollars. I guess I can chop trees with it now and save for a good Japanese one. Nick ...or...you can put it on E-bay and sell it for $500+ /Martin Quote
Nicko Posted August 6, 2012 Author Report Posted August 6, 2012 Good advice on the sword buying and ebay. I think Fu shan tin fu would be sad if I didnt chop things with it. I think for a chinese smith he made a nice blade. Quote
NihontoEurope Posted August 6, 2012 Report Posted August 6, 2012 Yes, Very nice Chinese blade. Excellent is a word that also can be used. SAI SAI JO JO SAKU. /Martin Quote
Nicko Posted August 6, 2012 Author Report Posted August 6, 2012 I bet you guys being art collectors would like to see a little video of this blade being used in action. Lol. Maybe I will I forgot to ask is that what these symbols say? A name? My Chinese friend told me it was a Japanese name. Regards everyone Nick Quote
Brian Posted August 6, 2012 Report Posted August 6, 2012 They seem to be obsessed with using some of those characters on their blades: viewtopic.php?f=15&t=13500 None of which mean anything at all, except lousy Chinese junk. This one of yours is particularly bad....can't find anything about it resembling a Nihonto I'm afraid. Brian Quote
