Ray Singer Posted August 2, 2012 Report Posted August 2, 2012 I was just very surprised to hear that there will be a sword show in Orlando in a few weeks. Information on their site is very light, anyone have additional details? Is this affiliated with the Florida Token Kai? I am curious to know how attendance will be. The 'current dealers' section of the site is password protected and does not work even after registration. http://www.orlandojapaneseswordshow.com Quote
cabowen Posted August 2, 2012 Report Posted August 2, 2012 Wow, they ought to fire their PR person.....no one I know has heard a word about it....Then again, maybe it is suppose to be closed, invitation only event...Orlando in August....Hmmmm...... Quote
NihontoEurope Posted August 2, 2012 Report Posted August 2, 2012 Ouch! That bad news : ( However, it says dates are subject to change on the site. Perhaps someone realised that there are few pre-regs. I hope they put the dates forward. /Martin Quote
Ed Posted August 2, 2012 Report Posted August 2, 2012 I received an invitation via snail mail several weeks ago. The show is being put on by Bob Elder. Nice guy whom I have known for years, Bob was/is a member and served on the board for the Florida Token Kai. I have not heard any other mention regarding his proposed show. He is a long time resident of the Orlando area, and teacher of Toyama Ryu Battdo. http://orlando-toyamaryu.com/ Quote
nihonto1001 Posted August 5, 2012 Report Posted August 5, 2012 Bob Elder is very qualified to run such an event. He knows the Japanese sword from both a Collecting and Martial Art perspective. He is responsible for introducing me to the hobby. He always took the time to go over Sword Appreciation with me. I hope the show is a success. Maybe I'll reach out and see if I can help. I think the success of these shows is important to Japanese Sword Collecting. -A message from Captain Obvious. Quote
nihonto1001 Posted August 7, 2012 Report Posted August 7, 2012 I just spoke with Bob and booked my table. It sounds like I will see some familiar faces there. Also, there should be some nice swords. I understand they are also having a Kantei contest. I will have some nice Swords, Tosogu and Microtech knives. Hope to see you there. Quote
nihonto1001 Posted August 21, 2012 Report Posted August 21, 2012 If you are heading out to the show this weekend, come on over and say hey. 10% off List for any NMB member. I will have many items not yet listed on the site. If there is anything in particular that you want me to bring, PM me. Quote
cameoking Posted August 21, 2012 Report Posted August 21, 2012 I will try to make it there from Miami but on the look out for a category 2 storm that is expected to be in area by Sunday Quote
Pete Klein Posted August 21, 2012 Report Posted August 21, 2012 Hey Jon -- remember a few years ago when we had to fly out of San Fran early due to a hurricane? Never seems to fail, does it??? Quote
nihonto1001 Posted August 22, 2012 Report Posted August 22, 2012 Hey Pete: Yes, I do remember that. That was a schlep and a half. I also remember Wilma, which was supposed to only be a Cat 1, turned into a hell of a storm. I was not even going to throw the hurraicane shutters on. Happy I did. Quote
sensei215 Posted August 22, 2012 Report Posted August 22, 2012 Just got out of the hospital again. I booked two tables and Im leaving tomorrow since I'm going to drive it. Im curious to know who else may be coming. Tim S Quote
Ray Singer Posted September 12, 2012 Author Report Posted September 12, 2012 Does anyone have photos and details on the Orlando show? That was the weekend Tropical Storm Isaac (later Hurricane Isaac) passed through, and I didn't see any way I could have attended and driven back south to Miami Sunday night. Thanks, Ray Quote
