steve69au Posted August 1, 2012 Report Posted August 1, 2012 Most WW2 tsubas ive seen are brass but this seems to be copper or similar all fittings are matching and high end and come off a sword signed Hizen no Kuni ju Ichimonji Hiroto and come with crest has anyone else come across these Quote
Mark Posted August 1, 2012 Report Posted August 1, 2012 yes, there are a variety of gunto mountings, some have a brass, or even gold wash, finish, some have a copper finish. I think there were a number of workshops making gunto mounts and the quality and finish varied Quote
Lindus Posted August 1, 2012 Report Posted August 1, 2012 Yes,often, but this is not run of the mill. You have a fine quality Gunto Tsuba that is Sukashi, this would have cost the officer much more as would the Mon. Some pic's of the mounts as well as the blade would be nice. Quote

Lindus Posted August 2, 2012 Report Posted August 2, 2012 Nice find Steve, well done. Interesting to get the script on the Tsuka translated, why not scan it and ask for help on that. Quote
steve69au Posted August 2, 2012 Author Report Posted August 2, 2012 Hi Roy The script on the Tsuka has translation on it one side Japanese the other is english first bit a bit hard to read but rhe rest says "first eductional aircorps Specail Sergeant Major Masake Nakamura" I was confused with a Sergeant Major having an officers sword but have found out while rare it did happen with high ranked NCOs Quote
